Wildlife
Viewing and Ecotours. The Natural World. Witness Unspoiled, Alive, and
Vibrant Ecosystems. |
| Let your eyes wander across the
water, look through the forest, and witness the bounty of the natural ecosystem.
A visit into unspoiled wilderness offers a world-class travel experience,
where we quietly view the amazing abundance of the natural world. Travel
into quiet waters by kayak, canoe, or cabin cruiser on day trips guided
by naturalists to suit your wildlife interests. Along the shorelines are tidal pools of marine life at the bottom of the food chain. Clam beds miles long and tide pools of urchins, anemone, and starfish form the foundation of the food chain. The vitality of these shorelines and reefs is why the entire ecosystem is so alive. Rivers connect the land to the sea. Venture up salmon spawning waters as huge waves of fish migrate upstream. During peak summer months, bears come down from the mountains to feed on salmon. Admiralty Island is famous for the largest concentration of brown bears anywhere in Alaska. Brown bears consume a year's nourishment during the three-month salmon spawning season. We sit quietly and watch. The Tlingit people of the area have coexisted for centuries in this wild world. You can visit sites of historic significance to Alaska's original people. We can see that for many centuries man and nature lived together, and both have thrived. At Whalers' Cove Lodge, the tradition of appreciation and respect for the awesome natural world continues. |
